Notaro takes on major care contract

Notaro Homecare Ltd takes on major care contract in N. Somerset to help more people…

We at Notaro Homecare Ltd have taken on responsibility for a major care contract to add to our existing services and this will also mean more job opportunities in the local area, North Somerset (November, 2016).

Hundreds of people are currently supported by Notaro Homecare and following the success gained from these services we have now been awarded a further 3,000 hours per week starting on December 14.
Sam Notaro, Company Business and Development Manager, said:

“As an award-winning organisation, we’re currently looking for 60 staff members to join our team and are hosting recruitment days on November 23 and 24 at our offices at 25, The Boulevard, Weston-super-Mare, above Bottelino’s restaurant.
“We’ve been operating at a very high standard for a number of years across North Somerset and have an excellent team of highly trained staff, but this new contract means we are now looking to take on a further 60 staff in Weston-super-Mare to add to our current, valued and highly motivated team.”

We will be responsible for future care packages for Weston, Banwell, Hewish, Kewstoke, Locking, St Georges, Wick St Lawrence and Worle. This strategic partnership with North Somerset Council will commence before the New Year.

All staff currently working for the Human Support Group are eligible to transfer to Notaro Homecare on, or before, December 14 on the same terms and conditions as they currently enjoy.

“We are keen to make the transition from one provider to another as seamless as possible for everyone involved.
“When care providers change, it’s natural that people have concerns. What everybody wants is continuity and that’s exactly what we want to provide too.”

Under TUPE legislation there are well established arrangements in place to ensure all existing staff are given the opportunity to transfer into a new provider on at least the same pay and conditions as they currently receive, and carry on delivering care and support to their existing service users.

“We would like to hear from people who currently work for the Human Support Group in North Somerset, who would like to continue in the same employment, but with Notaro Homecare. We’d like to reassure them and explain that we want to employ them.
“Our staff are really looking forward to working together to safeguard the service we provide and if you are a service user who wishes to get in touch, we’d love to hear from you too.”

Due to our continued hard work and dedication to the sector, Notaro Homecare Ltd support hundreds of people remaining in their own homes. We provide an extensive range of services, from daily calls and sleep-ins to bespoke live-in care services.

“If you are a caring person, with or without experience, Notaro Homecare can help you achieve your goals to become an exceptional carer. We offer training, competitive rates, travel time for walkers and drivers, mileage payments, consistent hours and runs, a refer a friend scheme and national discount scheme for major brands.” [Sam added]

The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive-based outcomes and person-centred care to people throughout North Somerset.

Our core values, instilled into every staff member, include ‘make us proud’, ‘focus on our service users’ well-being’, ‘communicate, listen well and speak with respect’, ‘be passionate, honest, caring and considerate’, ‘recruit and develop the very best’ and ‘lead by example’.

We have our own training department, which delivers full five day induction training and refresher training to experienced and non-experienced staff.
The recruitment days takes place this Wednesday and Thursday, November 23 and 24 at the Notaro Homecare’s offices at 25, The Boulevard, Weston-super-Mare, above Bottelino’s restaurant, BS23 1NX.

Stay young by eating a Mediterranean diet

Researchers have revealed the secret to stay young; follow a Mediterranean diet

The Mediterranean diet that consists of olive oil and fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and poultry, has been shown to reduce the risks of such diseases as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and heart disease.

The researchers from Boston, US followed 5000 nurses over 10 years, who adhered to the diet; It revealed that they had longer and healthier telomers.

Telomers protect the end of chromosomes from declining. As we get older, our telomers get shorter which links to age related diseases.

Coconut oil could ward off Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease

New research finds that diets high in fats, particularly coconut oil, postpones ageing of the brain

Coconut oil contains medium chained fatty acids, which go straight to the liver through the digestive tract and easily convert into energy or ketones; that fuels the brain, when we are low in these sugar reserves, the brain eats into it’s own cell resources, thus aging the brain.

The study analysed mice with the same defective DNA as Cockayne syndrome, which causes premature aging in its patients, with a life expectancy of 10-12 years. The mice were fed on a high fat diet; the results showed their ageing process was postponed such as impaired hearing and weight loss. The high fat diet also postponed the aging of the brain, because the coconut oil gave the brain extra fuel to allow it to repair it’s cells.

This new study gives hope to patients who age prematurely and patients who live with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

UKHCA reports that people prefer to stay in their own home than move to a care home.

UKHCA, the professional association for homecare providers responds to estimates undertaken by Four Seasons Health Care, suggesting that “providing just a few hours of care visits a day for elderly people in their own homes may be costing the taxpayer more than it would to provide around the clock care in a care home.”

UKHCA notes that whilst in some individual cases it will be less expensive for the state to fund people’s care in residential settings, it is not clear that this is the case generally. More importantly, such an assertion completely ignores people’s overwhelming preference for support to meet their care needs in their own homes.

UKHCA’s Policy Director, Colin Angel, said:

“Around nine in ten people would prefer to be cared for in their own homes if the need arose, with around just 8% expressing a preference for residential care.” (note 7).

“Successive governments have signalled the need for people’s social care needs to be supported in a way which maintains independence for as long as possible, helping people through better support in their local community.” (note 8).

UKHCA strongly supports the right of people to choose the most appropriate care setting to meet their needs and preferences. We remain committed to working with Government and bodies across health and social care to promote effective and efficient services that enable people to live well at home and in their own communities.
